On Fiber-preserving Isotopies of Surface Homeomorphisms

We show that there are homeomorphisms of closed oriented genus g surfaces Σg which are fiber-preserving with respect to an irregular branched covering Σg → S2 and isotopic to the identity, but which are not fiber-isotopic to the identity.

TENSION QUARTIC TRIGONOMETRIC BÉZIER CURVES PRESERVING INTERPOLATION CURVES SHAPE

In this paper simple quartic trigonometric polynomial blending functions, with a tensionparameter, are presented. These type of functions are useful for constructing trigonometricB´ezier curves and surfaces, they can be applied to construct continuous shape preservinginterpolation spline curves with shape parameters. To better visualize objects and graphics atension parameter is included. In th...

Subvarieties of Moduli Space Determined by Finite Groups Acting on Surfaces

Suppose the finite group G acts as orientation preserving homeomorphisms of the oriented surface S of genus g . This determines an irreducible subvariety Jtg of the moduli space J?g of Riemann surfaces of genus g consisting of all surfaces with a group Gx of holomorphic homeomorphisms of the same topological type as G. This family is determined by an equivalence class of epimorphisms <// from a...

Extending Homeomorphisms from Punctured Surfaces to Handlebodies

Let Hg be a genus g handlebody and MCG2n(Tg) be the group of the isotopy classes of orientation preserving homeomorphisms of Tg = ∂Hg, fixing a given set of 2n points. In this paper we find a finite set of generators for E 2n, the subgroup of MCG2n(Tg) consisting of the isotopy classes of homeomorphisms of Tg admitting an extension to the handlebody and keeping fixed the union of n disjoint pro...

Extremal Lyapunov Exponents: an Invariance Principle and Applications

We propose a new approach to analyzing dynamical systems that combine hyperbolic and non-hyperbolic (“center”) behavior, e.g. partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms. A number of applications illustrate its power. We find that any ergodic automorphism of the 4-torus with two eigenvalues in the unit circle is stably Bernoulli among symplectic maps. Indeed, any nearby symplectic map has no zero Lyap...
